FAQs
How comprehensive is Scanner?
Scanner is the most comprehensive token scanner in DeFi thanks to its unique set of security checks. These include:
DeFi Score: Our proprietary DeFi Score metric aggregates all of our contract checks to ensure that you can quickly compare various tokens based on their respective security audit findings.
Governance Tab: While most scanners ignore token governance, the De.Fi Scanner delivers a full governance report with contract administration and permissioned function details.
Risk Categorization: Your completed results will feature risks organized within three categories: “High Risk”, “Medium Risk”, and “Attention Required”. This allows you to make informed investing decisions regarding the issues that are acceptable based on your tolerance for risk.
Threat Identification: As historical DeFi hack and scam experts, the security researchers at De.Fi are adept at understanding the red flags that surround questionable token contracts. Be they unusual minting behaviors, dubious proxy patterns, or problematic ownership structures, Scanner will surface them and fully highlight what you need to know within the completed audit.
Honeypot Detection: Honeypots are one of the most notorious scamming tactics in DeFi so we take special care to highlight whether or not a coin is a honeypot via a dedicated report within Scanner.
Scanner API: For crypto project owners who want to upgrade their scam detection capabilities, our DeFi API allows you to integrate Scanner seamlessly for automated smart contract auditing.
What chains does Scanner support?
Is it beginner-friendly?
Yes, Scanner is one of the most beginner-friendly smart contract auditors available. All that a user needs is the contract address for the smart contract, token, or NFT that they are investigating. With this in hand, they can use the main search bar to generate a custom report in less than a minute. The reports feature a clear information hierarchy, easy-to-read breakdowns, and the option to be downloaded as a PDF.
While Scanner is easy for beginners, more experienced users are still able to get everything they need out of the audits as well. High and Medium risk issues can be expanded to offer clear reports highlighting exactly where issues are located within the smart contract’s code. Users can review, copy, and paste code snippets with ease and are also given examples of similar contracts where the same issues were exploited in the past. For security researchers, Scanner is a truly powerful tool.
Why did you create Scanner?
Here at De.Fi we are obviously huge fans of DeFi. We believe that this new technology has the opportunity to radically change the world’s financial system for the better, making it more democratic, accessible, and fair. However, the path towards that better future is still being paved.
In 2022, DeFi and crypto as a whole experienced significant challenges, notably due to failures in centralized finance like FTX, prompting increased scrutiny. A recent report disclosed $49 billion in losses for crypto users so far, half due to smart contract security flaws.
To combat this, we launched De.Fi Scanner. Scanner offers a security solution that equips users with the auditing abilities they need to navigate DeFi with confidence. As a flagship product in the De.Fi Antivirus suite, we aim to become the only app users need to keep their crypto investments secure from scammers and hackers.
What other security tools do you offer?
De.Fi Shield: Scanner is one of the most important features in the De.Fi Antivirus lineup, but it is not the only tool. While it protects users from purchasing coins that may not be trustworthy, other users are in a different position: they’ve already interacted with a smart contract and want to audit whether or not their wallet is at risk and take action to protect themselves.
In these situations, De.Fi Shield’s revoke wallet permissions functionality is exactly what is needed. After connecting your wallet to the De.Fi app users can use Shield to quickly perform a scan for risky smart contracts that they have previously granted permissions to. After scanning this report and its findings, they can decide whether or not to revoke access with a simple click of a button.
REKT Database: De.Fi makes it easy for users to research the history of scams with our REKT Database. With data on over $70 billion of exploits across both DeFi and centralized exchanges, it is the Internet’s most comprehensive record of crypto tragedies. With explainers for each incident written by Solidity engineers, users can learn from these past events and prepare themselves to avoid falling victim in the future.
Audit Database: Our Audit Database represents the largest database of public DeFi project audits. The reports within the database are free to download and use as you see fit. All audits within the database are sourced via blockchain security experts who have reached a level of knowledge fitting the standards set by our engineers.
Smart Contract Audit Services: The De.Fi team can perform comprehensive audits by request. If you would like to schedule a qualitative independent security analysis of your project, contact our team today regarding smart contract auditing services.
De.Fi Security: While it’s good to learn about the past, we all know that crypto moves at lightspeed. With this in mind, we also recommend following our security account on X as well, @DeDotFiSecurity. Our account will make sure that you know about breaking security news and developing exploit techniques as researchers discover them.
